A Roofing Company Built From Experience & Family Heritage
Soteria Roofing was founded in 2020 by Company Director Ricky with a clear ambition: to create a roofing company known for consistently high standards, skilled craftsmanship and a professional way of working.
For Ricky, however, roofing began long before Soteria.
He spent 13 years working in the trade alongside his late father, Geoffrey Andrew Shellard. During that time, Ricky learned from an experienced craftsman while developing the practical skills and standards that would shape his own career.
After losing his father, Ricky was determined to continue developing the skills that had been passed down to him. His experience grew across roofing and the wider construction industry, with leadwork and heritage roofing becoming particular areas of interest.
Soteria Roofing was ultimately created from that combination of experience, heritage and ambition. Ricky wanted to build a trusted and reliable company with a team that shared the same respect for its craft and could challenge some of the negative perceptions customers can have of the construction industry.
Today, developing that team remains an important part of the business. Experienced roofers and project managers work alongside apprentices building their careers, allowing practical knowledge to be shared while Soteria continues to raise its standards.
Our name was chosen for a reason.
After spending many holidays in Greece and travelling around the Southern Greek Islands, Greek mythology became a longstanding interest of Ricky’s. In Ancient Greek mythology, Soteria was associated with safety, salvation and preservation from harm.
Those ideas felt particularly appropriate for a business responsible for protecting people’s properties.
A roof is ultimately there to provide protection. The name Soteria therefore reflects something deeper than branding. It represents the sense of responsibility we believe should come with working on someone’s home, investment property or commercial premises.
That principle continues to influence how we approach our work, from the craftsmanship that goes into the roof itself to how a property is treated while work is underway.

Founder Ricky has 25 years of roofing and construction experience and established Soteria Roofing in 2020. His specialist interests include leadwork and heritage roofing, supported by qualifications in pitched roofing and slating, carpentry, lead sheet work and single-ply roofing.

Across Soteria Roofing, multiple team members hold recognised roofing qualifications and specialist training relevant to the work they undertake.
These include NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in pitched roofing and slating, Single Ply Roofing qualifications, Lead Sheet Training Academy qualifications and carpentry qualifications. Kane also holds a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Plastering & Rendering.
The team combines specialists in leadwork, heritage roofing, slate roofing, tiled roofing, flat roofing, lead welding, roof carpentry and single-ply roofing.
We also believe expertise should continue developing. By combining experienced tradespeople with apprentices learning the profession, practical knowledge can be passed through the team rather than standing still.
